Grace has been busy collecting straws over the last few weeks. The girls decided they would make something with all the straws. They made a fantastic 'Straw City' that they shared with the class. Well done girls!
Our optional extra for homework this week was to make something out of paper to share with the class. Look at all the great things we made!
Today Miss Hill taught us about video conferencing. We got to talk to a class in Japan! It was very exciting!
We have a new college teacher for the next three weeks. Her name is Miss Gill and it is lovely to have her in Room 11!
The sun is shining and it is important to remember to bring our sunhats to school everyday this term. We even made some cool posters for homework to remind us!
This term we have been learning how to write poetry. We have been using our senses and lots of descriptive language to make our poems exciting! We wrote this cool poem together:
George's cat O.P. was unable to visit school on Pet Day so he had his own special visit. George has told us lots about his cat and it was great to meet him!
Today was 'Pet Day'. In our classroom we had dogs, frogs, tadpoles, hens, a caterpillar and a bird as well as a friendly monkey, leopard, cat, penguin and shark! Check out our great photos...

Welcome to Sam Guthrie who is a second year College of Education/University of Otago student. He will be assisting and teaching in our classroom over the next few weeks.
This week is 'Character Counts Week'. We have been looking at how we can be respectful at school and at home. We have been completing lots of fun activities and celebrating our character values. Four children in Room 11 won a golden ticket for being respectful in Room 11. They got to attend a special morning tea on Friday.
On the last day of term we had a special surprise. Manu's dog Cappuccino came to visit us. Cappuccino was very friendly as well as very clever. He could do lots of great tricks like rolling over and even opening the door!
Today Elgregoe the Magician came to visit school. He showed us his birds, puppets and heaps of neat magic tricks. He told us that we have the power to stop bullying by treating others nicely and making our school a special place to be.
We had a super cute special visitor to Room 11. Hayley brought along her cute little puppy 'Lollipop' to visit us. Lollipop is a 'Schnoddle', which is a Schnauzer and a Poddle.
This term we have been learning our 3 times table. We have been learning to skip count by singing along with this cool song...
Miss B was very excited and flattered to find out that she had been nominated for 'New Zealand's Most Inspiring Teacher'. As our optional extra for homework we shared our favourite song and talked about why we liked it. Rose shared 'Kiss From a Rose' by Seal. She likes watching Seal judge on the TV show 'The Voice' and loves this song because it has her name in it.
Leah played 'Drunken Sailor' for us on the guitar. She is learning this song at guitar lessons with Mr Galloway.

We have been so busy in Room 11 that we have run out of gluesticks! There was a note sent home today and it would be most appreciated if you could purchase a new gluestick and send it along to school with your child. Thank you!
Today we worked with some College Teachers from the Dunedin College of Education/University of Otago. The College Teachers prepared a special maths lesson just for us.
This week we have been having fun Futsal sessions from the guys at Football South. We have been learning ball skills and lots of new games.
We have been running everyday to get fit for the cross country next Tuesday. Each day we try and do as many laps as we can and record these by getting our card clipped. We are trying to all reach 100 laps to be part of the 100 Lap Club. Congratulations to Jake who was the first person in our class to achieve this goal.
On Wednesday afternoon we went to a fun Kiwikids Song Show. The talented Kathy Bee entertained us with songs and balloon tricks. Oliver and Sasha were extra lucky and got to make their own balloon dogs.
Congratulations to Neve who has been working hard to complete her learning commitment goal. Neve shared a great powerpoint with the class and told us all about how she looks after her pony, Velvet.
Today Elisa shared her homework powerpoint and taught us 'How to look for a perfect puppy for your family'. Here is her great work.
Congratulations to Manu and Olive who were chosen by Mr Galloway as being the top boy and girl writers in Room 11. Both Manu and Olive got a certificate and book vouchers as a prize. Keep up the amazing writing!
At assembly Miss B got to choose a group of kids to go up on the stage and sing with Mr Galloway. Manu, Samuel, Neve, Keziah, Jo and Angelina did a great job!
Jo and Olive worked together to complete their homework this week. They taught us 'How to take care of your dog'. They bought along items to share and talk about as well as making a great powerpoint. Super teamwork girls!
This week's optional extra was to write a list of instructions to teach the class how to do a new activity. On Friday the child shared a wide range of instructions from 'How to ride a horse' to 'How to care for a cat'. Here are some photos of Oliver who taught us 'How to make a Lego house'.
Thank you to all the children and their families who came along to 'Maths Open Night' on Thursday. During the night we shared lots of the great equipment we use and activities we complete during maths time. We love maths in Room 11!
On Monday, Mr Galloway came to our classroom to talk about his writing competition. He read a piece of writing from each child in Room 11 and awarded them a gold, silver or bronze award. Mr Galloway was very impressed with our writing and we were proud of all our hard work. Mr Galloway is going to announce the overall winners at assembly on Friday.
Congratulations to Samuel who won the under 14 novice Highland Fling at a recent competition. What amazing kids we have in Room 11!
This term we are learning about writing instructions. We wrote instructions of how to make a cup of coffee and then we made a cup for Miss B. She enjoyed her delicious coffee!
