On Thursday we went on our first trip of the year. We went to the Dunedin Art Gallery. At the gallery John showed us some amazing art from famous artists. We then went into a special art classroom and began creating our own portraits. We have just a little bit of work to do on our portraits then they will be up on our wall for everyone to see. Thank you very much to all the parents that came along to support us on our trip.
Since it is the start of the year we have been exploring all the great maths equipment we have in our classroom. Look at all the fun learning activities we have been doing.
On Monday it was Miss B's birthday. We had a fun day together. We played 'Birthday Bingo' at maths time, made as many words as we could out of the word 'BIRTHDAY' at reading time, and wrote birthday stories at writing time. Just before lunch we had a yummy slice of chocolate birthday cake. Birthdays are fun in Room 11!
In writing time today we were learning about 'Onomatopoeia'. Samuel has a super cool 'Onomatopoeia' t-shirt. Check it out!
Congratulations to Victoria for winning a prize in the Dunedin Libraries Holiday Reading Competition. Victoria won a book and movie vouchers because she read 20 books in the holidays. Wow!
Today Constable John Summerfield came to talk to us about bike safety. He taught us how to check if our bike is safe and taught us some important road safety rules.
Today we had a special visitor to Room 11. Teresa, Matthew's Stepmother and Dunedin City Councillor came to talk to us about getting safely dropped off at school. She told us about the new 'Quick Stops' where parents quickly drop off children in special zones outside the school. A notice has been sent home today about 'Quick Stops' and there is also a copy posted below.
We talked about how it was our responsibility to ensure that our pet fish was happy, healthy and safe. Here are our ideas of how we can look after our fish.
Meet our class pet 'Spongebob'. Spongebob is 3 years old and has lived all his life at George Street Normal School (except for the holidays when he stays with Miss B). This year we are going to show responsibility by taking good care of Spongebob.
Today I also asked the children "What will Miss B need to do to help you this year?" The children had lots of learning areas that they would like help with including technology, spelling, art, writing, skipping, being nice, sport, drawing, reading games, science, reading, learning, Activ Board. Miss B will be a very busy teacher indeed and is looking forward to helping all the kids in Room 11!
Today I asked the children "What kind of teacher do you want?" Here are their answers friendly, cool, smart, awesome, nice, let's you read in your head, helpful and nice, jokes, loving, pretty, kind, caring, doesn't get mad when kids fail, be themself, awesome and smart, smiles, makes us laugh and be happy Miss B promises to try her best this year!
