As our optional extra for homework we shared our favourite song and talked about why we liked it.  Rose shared 'Kiss From a Rose' by Seal.  She likes watching Seal judge on the TV show 'The Voice' and loves this song because it has her name in it.

Leah played 'Drunken Sailor' for us on the guitar.  She is learning this song at guitar lessons with Mr Galloway.

Thanks for sharing your favourite songs girls!

We have been so busy in Room 11 that we have run out of gluesticks!  There was a note sent home today and it would be most appreciated if you could purchase a new gluestick and send it along to school with your child.  Thank you!

Today we worked with some College Teachers from the Dunedin College of Education/University of Otago.  The College Teachers prepared a special maths lesson just for us.

This week we have been having fun Futsal sessions from the guys at Football South.  We have been learning ball skills and lots of new games.

We have been running everyday to get fit for the cross country next Tuesday.  Each day we try and do as many laps as we can and record these by getting our card clipped.  We are trying to all reach 100 laps to be part of the 100 Lap Club.  Congratulations to Jake who was the first person in our class to achieve this goal.

On Wednesday afternoon we went to a fun Kiwikids Song Show.  The talented Kathy Bee entertained us with songs and balloon tricks.  Oliver and Sasha were extra lucky and got to make their own balloon dogs.

Congratulations to Neve who has been working hard to complete her learning commitment goal.  Neve shared a great powerpoint with the class and told us all about how she looks after her pony, Velvet.

Today Elisa shared her homework powerpoint and taught us 'How to look for a perfect puppy for your family'.  Here is her great work.

Congratulations to Manu and Olive who were chosen by Mr Galloway as being the top boy and girl writers in Room 11.  Both Manu and Olive got a certificate and book vouchers as a prize.  Keep up the amazing writing!

At assembly Miss B got to choose a group of kids to go up on the stage and sing with Mr Galloway.  Manu, Samuel, Neve, Keziah, Jo and Angelina did a great job!

Jo and Olive worked together to complete their homework this week.  They taught us 'How to take care of your dog'.  They bought along items to share and talk about as well as making a great powerpoint.  Super teamwork girls!

This week's optional extra was to write a list of instructions to teach the class how to do a new activity.  On Friday the child shared a wide range of instructions from 'How to ride a horse' to 'How to care for a cat'.  Here are some photos of Oliver who taught us 'How to make a Lego house'.

Thank you to all the children and their families who came along to 'Maths Open Night' on Thursday.  During the night we shared lots of the great equipment we use and activities we complete during maths time.  We love maths in Room 11!

On Monday, Mr Galloway came to our classroom to talk about his writing competition.  He read a piece of writing from each child in Room 11 and awarded them a gold, silver or bronze award.  Mr Galloway was very impressed with our writing and we were proud of all our hard work.  Mr Galloway is going to announce the overall winners at assembly on Friday.

Congratulations to Samuel who won the under 14 novice Highland Fling at a recent competition.  What amazing kids we have in Room 11!

This term we are learning about writing instructions.  We wrote instructions of how to make a cup of coffee and then we made a cup for Miss B.  She enjoyed her delicious coffee!

We wrote instructions of how to make a cup of hot chocolate.  We followed our own instructions and made a delicious cup.  We had a cafe in our classroom!

Sadly, we do not have a 3rd year Grad Student working in our class this term but we will still have many visits from students of the College of Education.  This week a group of first year students came to share some fun science experiments with us and we also shared our maths knowledge with another group of students.

Well done to Oliver who has been busy working on his learning commitment over the holidays.  He shared his great work with us this week.  Check it out...

On Tuesday we watched a 'Keep New Zealand Beautiful Show'.  It was a fun show and we learned lots of important things about reducing and recycling.

This week we have started training for the Cross Country.  We are running each day and counting how many laps we do.  We are doing a '100 Lap Challenge'.  We will be super fit and ready for the Cross Country later this term!
